Level 3 - Drawing Techniques

In VectorWorks, objects are created using either the mouse, the keyboard, or a mouse-keyboard combination. The following directions cover the basic methods

Using the Mouse: The mouse is the easiest way to draw in VectorWorks. Depending on the type of object to create, select the tool button and create it using either the Click-Drag or Click-Click mode.

Using the Data Display Bar: Combining the mouse with the Data Display bar is a precise way to draw. This method is especially useful for creating objects that are smaller than the current snap grid.

To enter values in the Data Display bar:

1. While creating an object, press the Tab key. The X Field is selected. (In click-drag mode, press and hold down the mouse button when pressing Tab

2. After entering a value in the field, press RETURN using the keyboard to lock in the value This means that regardless of the location of the cursor, the value for that field is set to the value entered.

3. To lock in a value and move to the next field, press ENTER on the numeric keypad. ------->

4. To enter a new value, press the Tab key until the locked field is highlighted. Enter a new value and press ENTER

5. Enter values in each desired field
6. Click to complete the object

Using Dialog Boxes: Some of VectorWorks' creation tools can also be manipulated using dialog boxes to enter data. For example, the with the rectangle command selected, the dialog box can modify the incoming object.

To create objects with a double-click dialog box:


1. Double-click on the desired tool.
(The tool's dialog box will open)

2. Enter the desired criteria

3. Click OK
