Safety Guidelines for Project Lab and AV Room
- Always work in Project Lab with the door open to your classroom. The AV room door should be closed only while taping audio.
- You must wear safety glasses or cover goggles when using any tools or operating any equipment or if you are in close proximity to other students using equipment.
- Do not wear loose clothing, jewelry, rings, necklaces, gloves, etc. when operating lab equipment. No sandals are to be worn in the Project Lab.
- Do not operate any equipment unless you are familiar with its operation and have been instructed in its use.
- If yo have not worked with a particular material before, check with your instructor for specifications regarding the product.
- Machines must be disconnected from power source before interchanging any of the parts.
- All machines must be operated with all guards and shields in place.
- Use each tool or machine for only its intended use.
- Check the condition of power cords and plugs on portable tools before using them. Report any damage to your instructor.
- Students should not be climbing on anything (ladders, chairs, etc.)
- Never indulge in horseplay in the lab areas.
- Practice cleanliness and orderliness in the lab areas. Return all tools to the appropriate cabinet. Use the shop vacuum if needed.
Clean up before you leave!
- Do not bring food/snacks into the lab areas.
- Follow all appropriate precautions when working with solvents, paints, adhesives or other chemicals. Use appropriate protective equipment.
- Spray painting should be done in the alley behind the Print Shop (supervised!)
- Always dispose of any paper towels in a lined garbage can.
- Do not rush or take any chances.
- In case of injury or contact with harmful chemicals, no matter how slight, report it to your teacher.
The Safety Contract should be reviewed with instructor and signed by the student accepting the contract before working in the Project Lab. |
