| What is a CAD System? |
|
The following components make up the hardware portion of an industrial CAD System. COMPUTERS - The computer or "CPU" (Central Processing Unit) is used to analyze and manipulate data.. KEYBOARDS - The keyboard is used to input alphanumeric commands and X-Y oordinate data into the computer by typing. MONITORS - The monitor is used to display data entered into or retreived from the data base in the computer. GRAPHIC TABLETS - The graphics tablet is used as a work surface for holding a menu and for inputing commands and data digitizing. DIGITIZERS - The digitizer is used to input commands and data directly into the computer with or without a graphics tablet. REMOVABLE DISK DRIVES -Flash drive can be used to store drawing files and allow files to be transported from one machine to another. HARD DISK DRIVES - The hard disk drive is used to store drawing programs or software applications. Hard disk drives can be internal or external and provide many gigabytes of storage space. CD ROM DRIVES - The CD ROM drive is used to access drawing symbols, drawing programs or software applications. A CD ROM drive can be internal or external. CD BURNERS - A CD Burner is used to archive files or for back-up. PLOTTERS - The plotter is used to produce accurate hard copies (drawings) from the data stored in the computer. Usually a plotter is for C & D size. PRINTER - The printer is used to produce a listing of commands used to create a drawing or a preliminary copy of what is displayed on the monitor screen. |
