FASTENERS

I. OBJECTIVES - Upon the completion of this step, the student should be able to:

A. Describe the common types of fasteners used to hold components together;
B. Identify and define the basic characteristics of fasteners;
C. List and define the three methods for representing threads on drawings;
D. Describe the five components of a thread specification;
E. Apply customary and metric thread notes to drawings;
F. Represent basic threads on detail drawings;
G. Represent basic fasteners on assembly drawings;
H. Use charts and specifications from reference materials in the selection and drawing of fasteners.

II. REFERENCES - The following materials will be given to the student or are available for overnight use on a check-out basis:

III. ASSIGNMENTS - The following activities should be completed as indicated by the instructor:

A. Access the "Tech Draw Server" to down load a copy of the Study Questions for Step 7. You may printout the Study Questions for Step 7 and write in the answers or you may type in the answers using AppleWorks.

B. Prepare a Division Sheet for Step 7 including a title, the step number, your name and examples of the three methods for representing threads. Include a thread specification for each example.

C. Complete Fasteners Worksheets #1 & Fasteners Worksheet #2.

D. Refer to Fasteners Project and follow the directions provided by your instructor.
