HEX HEAD DESIGN
PROCEDURE
Directions: Use the following procedures to create top
and side views of hex head fasteners.
- STEP 1 - Layout the diameter (distance
across the flats) of the hex head on a pair of center
lines and add a circumscribed hexagon
to match the diameter.

- STEP 2 - Layout the thickness or height of the head.

- STEP 3 - Project the corners of the hexagon to the top of
the head (blue phantom lines).

- STEP 4 - Add the corners to the head thickness (solid blue
lines).

- STEP 5 - Project the head chamfer from the hexagon diameter
to the head thickness (green phantom lines)
and then add the head chamfer
to both edges (solid green lines).

- STEP 6 - Add the chamfer thickness ( solid cyan line).

- STEP 7 - Trim the corners to the chamfer thickness.

- STEP 8 - Project the tangent point of the hexagon and the
hexagon diameter to the head thickness (light
blue phantom line).

- STEP 9 - Delete the chamfer thickness line (cyan
line).

- STEP 10 - Delete the chamfer thickness line.
