STEP III - Design Process for Solving Problems

I. OBJECTIVES - Upon completion of this step, the student should be:

A. Aware of the steps involved in the industrial design process;
B. Aware of the steps involved in the architectural design process;
C. Able to follow the design process in solving the architectural and industrial design problems in this course;
D. Able to complete a "Design Project Analysis" worksheet for a Bird House;
E. Aware of the many career opportunities related to design and technical drawing skills;
F. Aware of the many educational requirements and skills needed to be successful in a career related to design and technical drawing.

III. ASSIGNMENTS

A. Access the "Tech Ed Server" to down load a copy of the Study Questions for Step III. You may printout the Study Questions for Step 3 and write in the answers or you complete using word processing software.

B. Prepare a Division Sheet for Step III including a title, the step number, your name and a flow chart that illustrates the steps of the "Design Process". See Sample.

C. Prepare a "Career Profile" Worksheet for a design and/or technical drawing related career of your choice.

D. Prepare a "Design Project Statement" and a "Design Project Analysis" for a Bird House of your own design. The "statement of problem" is the first phase of the first step of the Design Process. The purpose of this phase is to describe the general considerations of the problem without indicating a solution. The statement must address five (5) general concerns: what, who, why, where and when. Write a "Statement of Problem" for a specific bird dwelling of your own design. The Analysis will provide added details to help solve the problem.
