The Stevenson High School Color Guard is a co-curricular group which performs with the Stevenson Bands as a featured part of the Marching Patriots , providing added color and visual impact to every halftime performance.

The members of the Stevenson Color Guard are very active beyond the fall marching season. Each winter they compete with their Tall Flag & Short Flag routines in the TeamDance Illinois Competitions held throughout the area. Since 1995, the Stevenson Color Guard has Ranked in the top 6 In Illinois, and earned the First Place Trophy in 2009 & 2008 for Short Flag through TeamDance Illinois, and the Championship Trophy in 1998 for Flag Show through the Illinois Drill Team Association.

Full Description:
Color Guard provides an intensive, challenging, disciplined, and creative experience in which the squad will rehearse, perform, and compete with a variety of color guard routines. In the fall season, the Color Guard will be featured performers with the Stevenson High School Marching Patriots at half-time performances for football games. During the winter season, the Color Guard will travel and perform/compete as members of TeamDance Illinois (TDI).

Eligibility Requirements
The Color Guard is open to all students interested in performing precision routines, interpreting music through dance, tall flag, short flag, and rifle handling.

Time Commitment
Color Guard is a co-curricular activity which will meet 2-3 days per week after school from August through March. An additional rehearsal may be added during the week immediately proceeding each performance or competition. The Winter Competitive Color Guard season (Nov.-March) will include monthly weekend rehearsals, TDI competitions (on weekends) as well as other performances and contests. Specific times and dates will be published in the fall. Only those able to attend all rehearsals and performances should audition- attendance policies are strict.

* A schedule of once-per-week summer practices will be announced at tryouts.

Ideal Candidates...
...exhibit good physical coordination skills; have good "stage presence"; have musical background and/or dance experience; can exhibit facility in moving with music; have good leadership skills; demonstrate punctuality, reliability, consideration for others, maturity, self-motivation; have a willingness to work hard and practice routines repetitively to achieve polished performance levels; are in excellent physical condition. No flag handling experience is necessary.

Band Members & Color Guard
Members of Stevenson’s Bands are invited to audition for Color Guard on a “Marching Season Only” basis. These members will attend all after-school Color Guard rehearsals and perform with the Color Guard during Marching Season, while fully participating in Band class. While Band members may choose to continue Color Guard in the Winter Competition Season, we hope to dramatically increase the number of Guard on field for the halftime shows by encouraging band members to join Color Guard.

Monetary Obligations
All Color Guard members will be required to deposit money with the school for the purchase of the equipment and uniforms. A $50 deposit will be required on the final day of tryouts from those students who are selected to the team.
