Mission:

To serve the students and staff of Stevenson High School by supporting the curriculum and life-long learning.

In order to realize our mission our goals include:

  1. To provide resources that support the curriculum and that stimulate intellectual curiosity.
  2. To provide instruction in information literacy, striving for indepent use and knowledge of available resources.
  3. To work with faculty to develop resource-based curriculum assignments and specific lessons.

Library Staff:

Head librarian: Mrs. Amy Thale
Reference librarian: Mrs. Monica Cornille
Paraprofessional librarians: Mrs. Betzy Barnett, Mrs. Marianne Johnson, Mrs. Eileen Gaughan, Mrs. Deborah Kerr, Mrs. Parul Joshipura.
Library secretary: Mrs. Tracy Van Giesen

Visiting the library - Students:

Students may visit the library before and after school, during any free period, or during a study hall on a pass. When you visit we ask that you observe three rules:

  1. Please keep your voices low. The library is a very big and often busy place. Voices tend to carry.
  2. There can be no eating or drinking in the library. This includes water bottles. Please keep these items in your backpack as they are incompatible with books and computers.
  3. Table seating is limited to four to a table, unless your group obtains special permission from the librarian.

When you visit us, you will want to remember to bring your ID with you, as it serves as your library card for checking out materials, and is also necessary for internet access. It is also helpful to have change or dollar bills in case you wish to make photocopies. The library has 2 photocopiers, one black and white ($.10 per pg.) and one color ($1.00 per pg.)

Passes:

Students may visit the library during a study hall on a pass. Passes must be obtained by one of your academic teachers, not your study hall teacher. Please stamp your pass in the time clock as you enter and leave the library. Once you are in the library on a pass, you must remain in the library. If you need to leave the room, please ask one of the librarians.

Visiting the library - Teachers and Classes:

Classes visiting the library need to be arranged in advance. The library can normally accommodate up to three classes per period. To avoid disappointment, it is best to sign up as soon as possible, especially if we need to put materials on reserve for your students. When you sign up, it is helpful to have a copy of the assignment for the librarian and let the librarian know if you need any special materials or instruction. Contact Mrs. Thale or Mrs. Cornille at ext. 1251 or 1295 to schedule your classes.

Loan of Materials:

Overdues, Lost Materials, and Fines:

Students having overdue or lost materials, or unpaid fines will not be permitted to check out any additional materials until they have taken care of this obligation.
