History

History of the Freshman Mentor Program
1990-1991 Pilot - Home Advisory Program - 6 Faculty Advisors worked in 6 advisories to monitor grades, progress, and encourage co-curricular involvement - Faculty Advisor acted in the role of an "adult friend" - Students were selected at random for the first advisories
1991-1992 Expanded program to serve all freshman - 20 Faculty Advisors
1992-1994 Continuation of Homeroom Program
March 1994 Proposal for FMP - adding student mentors to advisories
1994-1995 Pilot FMP Advisories - 6 Advisors, 12 Student advisors, 6 Faculty Advisors, 120 Freshmen
1995-1996 Expanded FMP to all freshmen - 35 Advisories, 70 Student Advisors, 35 Faculty Advisors
1996-1997 FMP Student Advisors implement Freshman Orientation Day
1997-1998 Pilot 6 Advisories with 3 Student Mentors
1998-1999 Expanded Program - 42 Advisories, 115 Student Advisors
1999-2000 New Focus on Frosh. Orientation Day - Introduced Board of Directors
2000-2001 Continuation of FMP w/ 3 Student Mentors per Advisory
2001-2002 Expanding Program to 4 or 5 Student Advisors in each advisory to attain a 1:5 Freshmen to Mentor ratio
2002-2003 Introduced Career Locker to each freshman student
2003-2004 Leadership training provided for the FMP Student Advisors to further develop effective "Teams of 5"
